In the magazine, Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour wrote an explanation of her decision to put the couple on the cover, explaining that West, who has been outspoken about getting his fiancee on the cover, was not a factor.
"Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it," Wintour, 64, wrote.
"As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it," she continued. "You may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancee on Vogue's cover. He did nothing of the sort."

Jewel of Africa TV reality show, a platform for Africa’s best – Senator

Abuja – Sen. Grace Bent, member, Governing Council, Jewel of Africa, has said that the Africa TV reality show will showcase Africa’s best cultural, social and ethical values.
Bent said while speaking on Wednesday in Abuja that the show would not project promiscuity as shown in the Big Brother Africa (BBA).
She said that the Jewel of Africa would be a complete departure from BBA, where all manners of obscenity were shown on television to the public, thereby corrupting their mind.
The senator said that the programme would reflect the social cultural diversity of the country, adding that 27 states, including the FCT, would participate in the first edition.
Bent said that the reality show would help to revolutionalise the tourism industry in the country, adding that it would showcase Africa’s best in dressing and greeting, among others.
She said that the youth must be re-groomed to assume their place in the country, and that the programme would provide an avenue for reorienting them about African way of life.
She said that the TV reality show would offer a different approach to the way things were being done in the country especially to the youth.
Bent, however, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to support the programmes, saying that it would help to rejuvenate the country’s lost cultural value.
She said that the endorsement of the president would help to boost the show.
“We want the president to support and adopt the Jewel of Africa project and drive it as a Nigerian project by encouraging the public and private investors.
“Giant government agencies and well-meaning Nigerians are also needed to provide support for the project,” she said.
She said that the governing council had resolved to show dedication, honesty, transparency and excellence, to achieve President Goodluck Jonathan’s dream of revolutionalising the culture and tourism sector.
This, according to her, is meant to achieve a positive reorientation of the younger generation in the national life.
The continent-wide multi-dimensional show is designed to restore Africa’s cultural values. (NAN)

Northern elders urge delegates to walk out of conference iF...

KANO – The Northern Elders Forum has directed Northern delegate to the forthcoming national conference to stage a walk out at any point it becomes clear that the confab would be used to injure the interest of Nigeria.
A communiqué issued by the pan Arewa Group Tuesday in Kano at the end of a two day marathon conference in Kano further warned its delegates to resist voting on any issue in the light of possibilities that majorities are likely to be contrived from skewed composition of pronounced partisan interest.
The Communiqué that was adopted by the Leaders and was read by a popular Nigerian Newspaper Columnist, Dr Baba Hakeem Ahmed noted that the composition of the delegates to the Conference represent a serious indictment of the Jonathan led administration plan to organize a conference that would address the complex problems of the nation.
The communiqué stated that “a conference built on a foundation of injustice and contempt for all known values should assure all citizens that it is not design to weaken them would not produce any conclusion that are useful”.
The Northern Elders Forum however noted that “many of the delegates are honourable and patriotic Nigerians who would not lend themselves to a scheme designed to compound our problems as a nation”.
The Northern Leaders further cautioned that “most of the delegates share concerns of other Nigerians that the absence of fairness in representation and the possibility that the conference could be used for the achievement of narrow, damaging interest is not one which should be supported by the presence of many notable, credible and distinguished Nigerians”.
The Elders Forum also directed “northern delegates to demand the obvious imbalance in representation between geo-political zones, religious and other interest be redressed before the conference commences any business”.
On 2015, the Forum called on politician to develop the highest levels of tolerance and willingness to respect the will of the Nigerian people, adding that “the forthcoming General election would severely challenge the electoral process given the high stake that include the possibility that the President Jonathan would be a candidate”.
The Communiqué faulted what it described as “the seeming inability of the federal Government, either through act of omission or commission, to protect the lives and property of citizens”, adding that “the shocking level of audacity with which the Boko Haram insurgents attack and kill people, destroy towns and villages and commit unspeakable atrocities calls to question the existence of any political will to fight it”.
The Elders Forum resolved to establish a Relief Fund to assist the victims of the crises in the North, particularly Borno, Yobe , Adamawa, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue state.

Man arrested for sending live worms in letters to celebrities

TAIPEI (AFP) – A Taiwanese man has been arrested on suspicion of sending threatening letters containing live mealworms and ceremonial money — traditionally used in rituals for the dead — to local celebrities, police said Wednesday.
The case was first reported last month when a record company received a letter addressed to pop singer Jam Hsiao which contained a bag of crawling worms and similar letters were also mailed to a well-known lawyer, an entertainment industry agent and a chain restaurant.
The suspect, identified only by his family Lai, was apprehended late Tuesday in Kaohsiung City, after police interviewed aquariums and bird shops selling the yellow mealworm used in the threat letters to track him down.
According to the police, Lai admitted that he sent the worms and the ceremonial money to celebrities in a bid to gain attention, because he was upset that his girlfriend was prosecuted for violating trademark law.
In Taiwan, ceremonial paper money is usually burnt in rituals to pay respect to the deceased but it is also used to lay a curse and make death threats.

My bone of contention with Obasanjo is my N500m – Orji Uzor Kalu

Nsukka: – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been described as the worst leader ever produced in the country since the advent of democracy in 1999.
The former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu made this known at a lecture on youths empowerment and good governance at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, Tuesday, adding that there was no transparency in government through out the eight years of Obasanjo’s regime.
Kalu noted that his problem with Obasanjo started in 1999 when he single handedly financed the People Democratic Party, PDP, lending the party N500 million which he borrowed from the defunct Hallmark bank, but which the former president asked the then PDP National Chairman, Chief Barnabas Gamade not repay.
Orji Uzor Kalu

”As if that was not enough, the former president closed Slok Airlines (owned by me) as it landed at the Akanu Ibiam International (then Enugu) Airport without explanation; shut down Hallmark bank. It was then that I know the problem had begun,” he said.
He further said that re-payment of the N500 million loan formed the major reason for his disagreement with Obasanjo till date, pointing out that he was arrested by Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, immediately he stepped out of office and charged with money laundering before both the United kingdom and America came to his rescue.
Kalu pointed out that despite all the setbacks faced by the Slok Group of Companies, it had no fewer than 13,000 in it’s pay roll and planned to employ up to 25,000 Nigerians within the next two years.
According to Kalu, youths unemployment was the biggest social problem in Nigeria today as only about 50 percent of the people were gainfully employed.
He noted that it was only in Nigeria that thousands of graduates remain unemployed years after graduation, saying that institutions get licensed without commensurate provision for employment of youths. Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the UNN, Prof. Bartho Okolo said that the country had 23.9 per cent unemployment rate, implying that every 30 people out of 100 were unemployed.
Okolo was represented on the occasion by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof Polycarp Chigbu
Okolo, said that the situation was worse for the youths because unemployment which stood at 50 percent in 2013 indicated bleak future for the ever increasing graduates of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
